Lessons - Censorship of Censorship
7/21/01
- You would think that an invasion
of police forces on an independent news agency would be, uh,
news? It was buried here in
Yahoo for Reuter's coverage, and the AFP
(which is now also down) called it a "brutal raid".
Unless your news source is the
IMC, you probably didn't see it.
Instead,
the depth of understanding at the Monday morning water cooler
is, at best, recalling
the death of an anti-globalization demonstrator. It was broad
daylight, the world watched it happened, photographic evidence
replicated throughout the world without censorship ... i.e., cat
out of the bag.
However,
what's been questionably buried in the mega-media version of the
world is the
midnight raid by Italian police of the offices housing the
Independent Media Center and Genoa Social Forum. Why won't a story
like this surface on ABCDisney, AOLTimeWarnerCNN, or the other
two? It's, ironically, bad press! "Goodnews", to those
that rule 99.9% of what America swallows as news, is meaningless
to most of thepopulation, slowly-evolving for maximum marketshare
penetration, and distracts away from real news events. Do I need
to mention the newsworthiness to anyone (outside of Modesto) of
the Chandra Levy case? It doesn't help he still has an Intern
Opportunities page on his web site, but folks, don't watch
the news, FIND THE F@$KIN NEWS, it's not on TV.
Next
years' site has already been discussed. The "Eight in the
Cage" cannot be bothered with all the negative attention,
and so a remote resort
in Canada (the economic-powerhouse that they are) will host
the 2002
G8 conference.
Until
then, the battleground has already begun to focus on North America
with the following:
July
25-28: NW Trade Bloc Vancouver
Aug. 10-15: Prison Industrial
Philly
Sept. 28-Oct. 3: World Bank/IMF DC
